El tema del V Congreso de Enseñanza de la Ética y el II Congreso Latinoamericano de Éticas Aplicadas, invitó a superar las visiones reduccionistas y corporativistasa de la ética profesional y a reflexionar sobre la responsabilidad que tienen las distintas profesiones de aportar al desarrollo social y en particular, a la consolidación y profundización de la democracia en Latinoamerica.

Para orientar estas reflexiones se trabajaron tres ejes de ejes de discusión en el congreso: 1) ética de desarrollo y el posdesarrollo, igualdad y sociedad; 2) formación ética y ciudadana; y 3) éticas profesionales en la construcción de una sociedad igualitaria. En el primer eje se tratan los desafíos éticos del desarrollo en el contexto latinoamericano, los puntos de encuentro entre la ética profesional y la ética del desarrollo, el rol ético de la empresa en una sociedad tan desigual como la latinoamericana y por el papel de la educación universitaria en la enseñanza de una comprensión ética del desarrollo.

En el segundo eje se trabajaron los retos pedagógicos que implica la formación ética en las instituciones educativas, la convergencia entre la educación ciudadana y la educación ética profesional, el alcance social de la formación ética profesional, la integración de la formación ética en todas las disciplinas y en últimas, por el papel de la educación en la construcción de una sociedad más igualitaria.

Finalmente el tercer eje se ocupó del papel que juega la ética en solucionar la tensión entre intereses profesionales e igualdad social, cuáles son los lugares para la formación ética en las profesiones, quiénes tienen la responsabilidad de hacerlo, si debe la ética profesional tener un papel en la reducción de la desigualdad, cuáles son los retos específicos que presenta Latinoamérica para la ética profesional y si ser un profesional ético implica preocuparse por la igualdad, la justicia y el desarrollo humano.
